    Founded in 1636 by Roger Williams, Providence is one of the oldest cities in the country. With a population of 177,994, Providence is home to eight hospitals and seven higher learning institutions including Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design and Johnson & Wales University.

    Once named the “Beehive of Industry”, Providence rebranded itself as the Creative Capital in 2009. Providence offers a host of attractions for lovers of the arts. Tony Award-winning Trinity Repertory Company, the Rhode Island Philharmonic and the Museum of Art/Rhode Island School of Design offer acclaimed theatre, fine arts and orchestral music.
